‘Miracle’ man wakes after
14-month coma
CURRYS CORNER – Chaker and Norma
Rouhana just got the best Christmas
present they ever imagined.
Their son, Charbel, is back.
He had been languishing, unconscious,
since being seriously injured in an
accident in September 2005.
Charbel has come out of his 14-month
coma and is responding to friends and
family, his father says.
“We would love to thank the community,
our customers and friends, churches,
preachers and prayer groups, volunteers
and visitors,” an emotional Chaker
Rouhana said yesterday.
Charbel, a talented member of the King’s-Edgehill
wrestling team, was hurt in a car crash
on Highway 101, near St. Croix.
Doctors didn’t give the Rouhana
family much hope during the months that
followed.
During
long months in hospital, Charbel could
open his eyes, but was unable to do
much else.
But in the last three weeks, Charbel
has been miraculously recovering and
showing daily improvements.
He comes home for day visits, understands
words and responds to people around
him, his parents said.
More than a dozen of Charbel’s
friends visited yesterday (Wednesday,
December 20, 2006).
Visitors were coming and going throughout
the day from all over the province,
encouraging Charbel to get well.
The Rouhanas sent a special thank you
to Robert Hessian, who recovered from
a serious head injury himself sustained
in a hockey game.
“Robert has been working with
Charbel every day since July (2006),”
Rouhana said.
“The miracle we are happily witnessing
– you helped make it happen. Charbel’s
awakening is due to your hard work and
prayers as much as it is ours.”
