Charbel Rouhana

We have many plans for the future that we hope will help Charb to be more comfortable and will help him on the road to recovery. We’d like to fill you all in on these plans in case anyone has any advice, suggestions or ideas for making these hopes become a reality.

Wheelchair Accessible Van

After a great deal of searching for the proper van, we finally found a wheel-chair accessible van with rear entry. This is ideal for Charbel because he has a big chair, and can now fit comfortably in the van. We purchased the van and will be using it to transport Charbel from the hospital to our house on a daily basis.

Building a Lift

Right now when we bring Charb home, we can only bring him to the store and to the back room where he used to exercise. Because our home is up a steep and tight set of stairs, Charb cannot actually come upstairs to be in his room, or spend time with us in the kitchen or living room. We are hoping to construct a lift that will be big enough to fit Charbel’s chair and will take him to the upstairs part of the house. We are hoping to have this constructed in time to bring Charb upstairs to be with us in the family room for Christmas. It is very important to us that Charb be able to spend time with us in a place that is comfortable and relaxing for everyone.

Renovating downstairs

Another option we are considering is building a room and bathroom for Charb downstairs so that he will eventually be able to stay at home full time. We would like Charb to be home with us at all times, but we will have to make many changes to the current structure of the house in order to fulfill his physical and medical needs. The reality of having Charb stay at home instead of the hospital is still far off, but we are working on coming up with a plan that will help us keep him here while making the environment as safe and comfortable as possible for him.
